Blazer laidback luxe style Asian Museum in Corfu

Tap into this season’s laidback luxe trend with a stylish blazer. No doubt a smart black blazer is essential for any well-edited wardrobe.

You can wear it to the office and with denim on off-duty days. I wore mine in Corfu the day we visited The Museum of Asian Art in the Palace of St. Michael and St. George.

The Asian Art Museum

It’s the only museum in Greece dedicated to the art of Asia, with collections of Chinese art, Japanese art and Indian art beautifully presented.

Even though, I was not expecting too much the visit proved that the owner of most the arts in the museum, Gregorios Manos, loved Asian art and had an exquisite taste.

The museum opened in 1927 as the Museum of Sino-Japanese art with the donation of the Gregorios Manos collection. A Greek ambassador to Austria, Manos (1850-1928) had purchased approximately 9,500 Chinese, Korean and Japanese artefacts at art auctions in Vienna and Paris in the late 19th and early 20th century. You can read more here.

The beautiful palace was built by Sir Thomas Maitland, the British Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Islands. It served as the High Commissioner’s residence, but was also the home of the Ionian Senate and the Order of St Michael and St George. The foundation stone was laid on St. George’s day in 1819. The location is between the old town of Corfu and the Venetian citadel. You can read more here

If you ever visit Corfu, it is a wonderful place to visit. Not at all what you might expect to find in Corfu town.
