Use the self timer on your camera instead of depending on the length of your arm.
Use a tripod
When using the self-timer it’s useful to use a tripod or a chair.
Lighting
Lighting sets apart amateur photography from professional photography. If shooting indoors, stand with the light falling on your face and not coming from behind your head for best results. If you are shooting outside, find a shaded area for photos.
Scenery
Use an uncluttered area if you are shooting inside a room or a garden if you are shooting outside.
Editing
Avoid an over-processed self-portrait.

Great tips! Ironcially, I don’t do a lot of selfies, when I try they look awful (the iphone reverse camera options makes me look weird) so I’ll put these tips to good use. 🙂
