For most women, shirts and blouses are wardrobe essentials. Given the fact that we wear so many it is important to choose the right style for you and get the fit right. To help you to do this we have put together a few simple shopping tips.

Where to find a good selection
[br]
[br]
Shopping in the right places is clearly important. If you regularly find shirts and blouses that you like in a particular store, carry on looking there first. But, be sure to periodically check out what other outlets have on offer. Surprisingly, the menswear section of most stores is an excellent place to find shirts, especially casual ones. Often, cuts are more or less the same so it is not hard to find something that fits. Typically, men’s shirts are a lot cheaper than women’s are. You can sometimes find more or less the same shirt in the men’s aisle for 30 or 40% less than it would cost if you bought it from the women’s section.

Shirts and blouses for an apple shaped figure
[br]
[br]
If you tend to carry most of your weight around your middle, the chances are you fall into the apple-shaped category. For you, tight shirts and blouses are rarely the best option. Instead, look for items that fall slightly away from the body and fit tightest around the hip area. If you do want to wear something more tailored you can, but it is best to look for shirts or blouses that feature some form of ruching around the waist area. Tops that feature a v-neck or can be unbuttoned tend to work best for you.

Dressing a rectangular body type
[br]
[br]
Most women have hips that are more or less the same width as their shoulders and do not have a well-defined waist. If this describes you, in all likelihood, you have a rectangle shaped body. Usually, bold shirts and blouses that contrast quite sharply with what you wear on the bottom will look good on you. Dressing in this way helps to create a more defined waist, which has the knock-on effect of making you seem curvier than you actually are.

Shirts and blouses for the hourglass figure
[br]
[br]
If you have a well-defined waist and your hips and bust measure roughly the same, the chances are you have an hourglass figure. Provided you are not carrying a lot of extra weight, choosing close-fitting blouses and shirts that accentuate your curves is generally the way to go.

How to dress a pear-shaped or triangle shaped body
[br]
[br]
Most women that fall into the pear-shaped category have shoulders that are narrower than their hips. For you, choosing the right top is absolutely essential. Usually, you will want to accentuate your upper body to draw attention away from your hips and buttocks. Look for shirts that broaden the shoulders and accentuate your waist. Brightly coloured tops and blouses tend to look really good on women with this type of body shape.

How to understand your body type better
[br]
Most of the time, it is fairly obvious what body type you have. However, if you are not 100% sure about what category you fall into this simple calculator will prove extremely helpful. Using it, and a tape measure, you will be able to quickly verify exactly what body type you are.
