As we were walking down Gertrude street in Melbourne I was impressed by a pair of chandelier earrings in the window display of a jewelry shop called Metal Couture. We entered the store and discovered the work of jewelry designer William Llewellyn Griffiths owner of Metal Couture. He is self-taught manipulator of precious metals. I was so impressed by his work I got a pair of amazing swallows even though I loved the over $1,000 worth chandelier earrings.
Belt Buckle
“He began his career in the jewellery workshops of London’s Hatton Garden over 30 years ago, and his works have since been sold and exhibited throughout Europe, Japan, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Specialising in creating one-off commissions for films and high-profile clients, his distinct signature has also led to collaborations with designers Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Dolce & Gabbana and renowned shoemaker Terri de Havilland. His designs are a potent cocktail of stones, metals and gems hand-worked into intricate pieces that have an allure of danger, romance and unholy reverence.”

All works are designed and handmade in the Metal Couture studio, which is open to the public everyday from 11am-6pm. The studio houses an eclectic mix of artefacts, inventions, taxidermy and antiques.
