My guess is you are wondering how the Stylish Greek wedding I went to in Paros compares to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” the movie. Not that much really except the live Greek music during the wedding party. The beautiful bride Lydia Gkoritsa is Greek and Andrew Reader now baptized Andreas is English, born and raised in South Africa. The festivities lasted a week. One evening we were invited for dinner at proud mother of the bride, Alexandra’s Skaltsogianni villa in Makria Miti where we watched the sunset drinking Greek white wine and meze. Another, night we went to Magaya a cool beach bar- restaurant with Greek Asian fusion cuisine.
One of the best parts was the wedding ceremony in Panagia Ekantotapiliani, the impressive historic Byzantine church complex in Parikia town, that dates to 326AD. “The church was purportedly founded by the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (ruled 306–337 AD), Saint Helen, during her pilgrimage to the Holy Land when she stopped to worship at a chapel on the island.” you can read more here.

The full moon Greek Stylish Wedding party in the villas in Makria Miti was incredible, in an amazing set up just in front of the sea. Loved the Greek live music from the De La Paro orchestra but I have to tell you we mostly danced with the contemporary music of the DJ. Loved the mix of the two cultures, we listened to English style speaches and admired Andrew dancing the Greek folk dance, zeibekiko. Yes, he did that too and he was perfect.
