Dining Al Fresco | Savoring the last days of Summer

A beautiful, simple and practical outdoor dinner table “al fresco” setting, savoring the last days of summer that never ends in Southern California.

Dining al fresco Wolrd Market

In Southern California the summer vibe lasts well beyond August!  But in our hearts- at least for those of us who have grown up with the seasons- there is nostalgia setting in as September approaches even though raindrops will most likely not fall. A dinner party with close friends right before the kids go back to school is a tradition in our home.

The menu is always light and Mediterranean; the set up is simple and functional. I love decorating the table with rosemary for the smell and that straight from the garden feel. Our rosemary bush has miraculously survived my neglect and is thriving against all odds year after year. To celebrate our native environment, succulents are also part of the decor.

I love white dishes because they go so well with colorful table linens. However, this year I decided to change things up so I bought these beautiful black square dinner plates, matched them with white salad plates and placed them straight to my wooden table. I love how organic it all looks and feels. My favorite finds the Chalk Talk Goblets. I used them as place cards when I set up the table and everyone loved knowing exactly which glass was theirs instead of trying to remember if they had picked the red or orange charm…

A beautiful evening with lots of laughs, minimal kid drama and best wishes for the new school year!
