I have been wanting to write this article about Yayoi Kusama ever since I saw her exhibition at Tate Modern this February in London. I already wrote about my visit to the London’s Royal Academy of Arts and David Hockney’s colorful exhibition but I think Kusama impressed me even more. In the W magazine, (my bible), June 2012 issue I read an extremely interesting interview about her life and her work. Her personality is so controversial and unique that believe it or not, she voluntarily lives in a private mental hospital in Tokyo. She is undoubtedly, the most iconoclastic and important contemporary Japanese artist and her talent was recognized immediately. Three years after graduating from art school in Kyoto she exhibited 200 works in a 1952 solo exhibition in in Matsumoto. She has worked for the past 60 years with a variety of mediums. When I saw Room 14: The Infinity Mirrored Room- Filled with the brilliance of life I was mesmerized. I actually experienced the infinite inside a room. A new exhibition of Yayoi Kusama, opens at Whitney Museum of American Art at New York, from July 12th to September 30th, 2012 following Centre Pompidou in Paris and Tate Modern in London. Recently, she collaborated with Louis Vuitton and produced an amazing series of Artistic projects and accessories. Check out the handbags, shoes, sunglasses, dresses and bathing suits… they are all with her signature designs. Dots and more dots!!!

I guess from her work and her life you can understand why in Japan she is referred to as The Queen of Scandal even though she represented Japan at the venice Biennale, in 1993 !
Have a lovely Day!!!
