This Alaia Timeless Bodycon body and skirt ensemble will give you my answer to the big fashion debate of Quality versus Quantity.
With Spring just around the corner it’s time for more color. The standout brick color Alaia body and skirt is one of my precious timeless garments, I have from the 1990s.
You read right, I have been wearing this Alaia outfit for over 20 years and it looks relevant and modern every single time.
I read an interesting article on Racked : Quality vs Quantity- The mathematics of shopping, about investment shopping versus fast fashion.
My opinion is that if you want to be stylish and classy you have to invest in some quality garments that you will cherish and wear for years.
Many of you might remember that, Azzedine Alaia’s figure skimming dresses came to embody the glamorous, upbeat atmosphere of the 1980s and 1990s.
When I went to Selfridges, during my visit for LFW, I saw in the Azzedine Alaia boutique exactly the same color clothes in very similar styles.
I was ecstatic !!!
My point is proven….
Alaia’s dresses are as popular as ever and the prices have gone up maybe even more than other designers…
So, it was an investment after all….
Alaia reffers to himself as a ‘builder’ rather than a fashion designer, his works emphasize structure and purity of form. He uses the most ingenious fabrics and rigorous tailoring techniques.
My investment piece last season was the Proenza Schouler black backpack from LuisaViaRoma. I am sure it will stand the test of time too…
As for this season, I got a camel coat from Finery which is an investment because of it’s design and quality but costs less than you might think…
Carrie Bradshaw said ‘I like my money where I can see it – hanging in my closet.’
